Darcy grew up as a 3 sport athlete in Greenwich (varsity field hockey, basketball and softball straight though college). Once college was over she decided she needed to find another sport she could continue for the rest of her life.
Darcy had always ridden her bike as a kid, and used it as a cross training workout for her other sports. There was a local bike race called the Greenwich Criterium on Greenwich Avenue. She went to watch and was instantly hooked! She started racing back in the early ’80s, and after winning several Regional and State Championships, competing in the Olympic Trials, and finally winning a National Championship, she switched to multi-sport.
Her first foray into multi-sport was Duathlon (run-bike-run) where she was a member of the National Team, TEAM USA, and competed in several National and World Championships (winning an age-group silver in Switzerland in ’06). Always on the lookout for a new challenge, she switched to triathlon, and has competed in dozens of races including 4 Ironmans and the Half-Ironman World Championships.
This year she will go back to racing short-course duathlon with the goal of making TEAM USA at the National Championships in April, and competing in the World Championships in September.
Of course all of this racing PALES in comparison to the joy and thrill she gets out of teaching her classes at Sportsplex (Spin, BodyPump and coming soon: BodyVive!). She loves the interaction she has with the clientele, and the challenge of keeping her classes fresh, fun, and exciting!
